United Methodists Worldwide Unite for Miracle Sunday 2026
Subject: A Shared Offering to Shape the Future of Global Pastoral Leadership

The United Methodist Church is preparing for a historic moment of unity and generosity as congregations from more than 100 countries join together for Miracle Sunday on May 17, 2026.

This day marks the culmination of a worldwide six‑week journey—Love Boldly, Serve Joyfully, Lead Courageously—during which congregations will pray together, study Scripture together, and commit themselves to a shared vision for forming the next generation of pastoral leaders.

United Methodist bishops have encouraged clergy and lay leaders to model generosity first, following the example of King David in 1 Chronicles 29. Through equal sacrifice rather than equal gifts, every congregation—large or small—is invited to participate. A retired bishop lately wrote to Bishop Streiff: “This has the promise of a strong future for The United Methodist Church throughout the connection. May God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – be honored by our collective efforts.”

The goal is bold: to help endow 500 annual scholarships in perpetuity, ensuring that theological education outside the United States is strengthened for generations to come.

At a time when the church has navigated pandemic disruption, disaffiliation, conflict, and economic strain, this initiative invites United Methodists to declare that hope still rises and the mission continues.

“This movement is a visible expression of our connectional identity,” said Bishop Bruce Ough, one of the regional directors of the initiative. “We are one church. We share one mission. And on Miracle Sunday, we will join in one offering to support God’s work across the globe.”
